Hurricane Ridge Engagement Session

Ivy + Konner’s Hurricane Ridge engagement session!

I always love it when I get to work with friends and people I’ve known for a long time. For this Hurricane Ridge engagement session, I got to photograph someone I’ve known for years. Ivy and I went to high school together, and I’ve had the opportunity to work with her twice recently.

I first photographed Ivy and her fiancé, Konner, last summer. Konner knew Ivy really wanted to do a couple session with me. So when he was planning to propose, he reached out and asked me to capture their proposal in discovery park. Then, I got to shoot Ivy again when Konner surprised her by arranging a graduation portrait session. These two make a sweet couple, and I was excited to work with them again for their engagement photos!

We kind of planned this Hurricane Ridge engagement session at the last minute, but it worked out perfectly. I really wanted to do a sunrise shoot at Hurricane Ridge while the weather was good. In the mountains, there is a short window of time between when the snow finally melts and new snow starts falling. So, if you want a green springtime photo session at this spot, you have to move quickly once everything melts. Luckily, Konner and Ivy’s wedding was coming up, and they needed their engagement photos done right during the perfect weather window!

Sunrise sessions are always an adventure, but the beautiful light on the mountains is so worth it. I left my house at 2:30 am to get to the mountain on time. I’m not sure if you’d call it morning or night, but I always feel a little funny at that time of day. But, when I arrive at the location and the sun rises, I’m always so full of energy! At least, I am until I finish the shoot and have to drive home… so I usually take a nap in the car before I head out, especially from Hurricane Ridge.

Ivy and Konner got up to the ridge way before me and got ready in the car. When I arrived, we went out to start shooting their Hurricane Ridge engagement session. The sunrise was gorgeous. The light was warm, the sky was pink, the ridge was beautifully green, and the mountains in the background were perfectly snow-capped.

However, every shoot seems to have its unique, surprise challenges; for this one, it was the bugs! There were so. many. bugs! It might have been because of how hot it was, but the bugs were everywhere. I ended up editing out a lot of bugs because they were swarming all around Konner and Ivy while we were shooting. Still, these two were great sports, and we had a lot of fun. Working with Ivy and Konner on their Hurricane Ridge engagement session was a great, easygoing experience. I hope to shoot with them again!
