Oregon Coast Couples Session for K + D’s First Anniversary

October 6, 2024

Kaiya + Drew’s Oregon Coast couples session!

This was the dreamiest way to celebrate their first wedding anniversary. The two of them were married in Greece (check out their Santorini elopement and elopement day cruise blog posts), and wanted something a little more low-key but just as memorable for their one-year mark. So, we headed to Cannon Beach for a session that was relaxed, meaningful, and full of personal touches.

A Twilight Oregon Coast Couples Session

We planned their anniversary shoot for the exact day of their wedding anniversary, in early-October. Although it was a bit chilly, the Oregon coast gave us the most beautiful golden-to-blue hour transition. We started with casual looks—sweaters and jeans. Then, we ended the session with the couple dancing barefoot in the water under the moon. Kaiya’s fitted sweater dress and Drew’s brown-and-white outfit coordinated perfectly with the sand, water, and sky.

Drew loved the flash film look from their wedding photos. So, we leaned into that same energy for their coast session. Shooting both film and digital, I focused on capturing not just their style, but their connection. There was laughter, running, twirling, and plenty of playful, joyful movement throughout their couple photo session. Honestly, it was the best kind of night—simple and sweet, with the kind of love that makes documenting moments like this feel effortless.

The Magic of Cannon Beach

Cannon Beach is really a perfect location for anniversary sessions. It has stunning views, a relaxed coastal town vibe, and iconic natural elements like Haystack Rock. Between the sea grass dunes, soft sand, and open sky, it gives couples plenty of variety and space to roam. During our session, the twilight reflected off the water and wet sand, giving everything a pretty glow.

This beautiful beach is only about 90 minutes from Portland. So, it’s both accessible and an ideal for destination wedding weekends or anniversary getaways. Whether you’re planning a proposal, an elopement, or simply celebrating your love, the Oregon Coast is an incredible place to create and document memories.

A Laid-Back Day with the Sweetest Couple

One of my favorite things about this session was how relaxed it felt. Chris came along too, and the four of us ended up just hanging out and taking photos. The entire time, it felt more like a day with friends than a shoot. That next morning, we all went out to breakfast together and talked about life, travel, and what’s ahead.

Kaiya originally reached out to book their first session with me over a year and a half ago. But, funnily enough, I already knew Drew from high school. Later, I found out that Kaiya and I had graduated in the same year, just from different schools. It’s amazing how paths cross again at just the right moment.
