Mia + Cameron’s New Orleans destination wedding!
This destination wedding, filled with beautiful details, historic architecture, summer heat, and the lively spirit of New Orleans, was such a blessing to document. Mia, an old high school connection of mine, has followed my work for quite a while. She was actually the one who referred me to Drew and Kaiya for their destination, Santorini elopement, last year!
So, when Mia and Cameron booked me for their own destination wedding, I couldn’t wait to capture their love story. I had briefly visited New Orleans before, and I felt confident knowing I had a bit of local travel experience under my belt. If you haven’t ever been to New Orleans, trust me when I tell you it’s a wild place to visit. But the food and music make the trip more than worth it!
Cameron and Mia’s wedding happened in June, so it was really, really hot. I mean, the groom and groomsmen sweat through their suits. The heat does not mess around in the South!
Still, when I think back, I remember this as such a fun day to document. The couple’s venue overflowed with historic New Orleans charm. R + R, positioned on the corner of Race and Religious, provided a romantic, rustic background for Mia and Cameron’s carefully curated wedding day details. Mia’s gold-rimmed oyster shell jewelry dish, the colorful, lace-trimmed hankies, the stunning rose and baby’s breath florals, and the beautiful antique furniture stand out as some of my favorite design touches of the day.
This New Orleans destination wedding day was also the first time I got to experience and shoot a second line, and it was crazy fun! In New Orleans, wedding second lines celebrate the beginning of the newlywed’s new life together. Complete with a brass band, waving hankies, and lace parasols, Mia and Cameron’s second line was quintessential New Orleans! I spent most of the time literally running past the group to get the perfect shot. I had so much fun despite the heat!
Chris, my boyfriend, best friend, and favorite travel buddy, went with me to New Orleans. After the wedding, we spent an extra day exploring the city. We took in some music and, of course, savored as much of New Orleans’ incredible food as we could fit in our stomachs!
Since we’d been in the city once before, we had an idea of where to find some of our favorite foods. This time, we had beignets from Cafe du Monde, tried a small breakfast place called French Toast, and ate at Curio, which has our favorite shrimp and grits. Plus, it wouldn’t be a trip to New Orleans without many po boys! We even got to experience Brennan’s and their famous bananas foster. All in all, I won’t forget any of that delicious food any time soon!
When I think back to Mia and Cameron’s destination wedding, I am truly at a loss for words. The joy, the celebration, the food, the music, and all the beautiful details of the day were a pleasure to experience and a blessing to document. If you’re planning a destination wedding, I’d love to be the one to make your love story tangible through timeless, emotive images.
