If you’re looking for a session that captures real emotion and unscripted joy, Lucy and John Rhys’s engagement photos are such a fun example of how powerful PNW film engagement photography can be. These two were visiting from out of state and wanted something that felt uniquely Pacific Northwest, but also cozy and low-key. With the summer weather beginning to set in, we picked a quiet spot in North Bend, WA, with meadows, golden light, and views of Mount Si in the distance.
What we ended up creating was romantic, nostalgic, and full of motion and laughter from start to finish.
John Rhys plays for the Seattle Seahawks, and he and Lucy spend a lot of time apart because of the season schedule. So this was more than just a photo shoot, it was a memory. Their chemistry was magnetic, and the whole session felt effortless in the best way.
Every prompt turned into action. We were all laughing as John Rhys chased Lucy through the field or twirled her around in the tall grass. He understood the assignment a little too well, and the images are better because of it.
These kinds of sessions bring out what I love most about working with film: the movement, the unexpected moments, the honest imagery that tells a deeper story.
Even though I often shoot film and digital, there was something so right about staying fully analog for this one. Film is just full of depth, especially with that June sun streaming through the grass.
The greens, the blooms, and the golden hour glow showed up so beautifully on film. Even the imperfect shots add to the feeling. That’s what I love about film photography; it’s unpredictable and vivid and true.
From Lucy’s long white dresses to John Rhys’s simple, clean look, everything about their outfits added to the naturalfeeling portraits we were going for. You could feel the love, the laughter, and even a few inside jokes in every frame.
They’re best friends first, and that connection came through with every look and every touch of this PNW film engagement photography shoot. It didn’t matter whether they were reenacting their first kiss or goofing off in the meadow, what we captured was real.
I would love to help you craft an organic experience full of joy, warmth, and real connection. Whether you’re planning an engagement or dreaming up something just because, my engagement photography packages are designed to feel easy and true to you.You can also check out more moments from this day on my Instagram and reach out through my contact form when you’re ready to plan your own story in film.
