Hotel Joaquin Elopement Photoshoot in Laguna Beach, CA

May 16, 2025

When a shoot blends creativity, connection, and California coastal charm, magic happens. This styled Hotel Joaquin elopement was just that: a visual daydream set in one of my favorite corners of Southern California. Nestled above Shaw’s Cove, Hotel Joaquin is a boutique hideaway that feels like an island escape and coastal design dream in one. All in all, its vintage soul and ocean views made it the perfect setting for this romantic editorial.

Intimate Details for a Dreamy Hotel Joaquin Elopement

From the moment we arrived, I knew this would be a favorite. I was traveling through SoCal for a few sessions (including this one at Woods Cove), and Hotel Joaquin stood out as a gem. The hotel’s thoughtful design, vintage furniture, layered textures, and ocean breeze set the scene for an especially beautiful, intimate elopement shoot.

The begin with, the bride started the day in bridal PJs for celebratory balcony photos. Soon after, she stepped into a modern, romantic gown with sheer lace gloves, a vintage-inspired scarf, and a soft updo by Brittany Nicole. The amazing designer, Izzy, styled a half-moon sweetheart table on the lawn overlooking the pool. It was complete with taper candles, overflowing florals from Daisydaisy Florals, and fruits like green grapes and pears. Think understated elegance with organic charm.

A Styled Elopement with Editorial Flair

I shot three rolls of film as well as digital to capture every detail. There’s something about film photography that just brings the feeling to life, and for a venue like this, it was the perfect medium.

Additionally, adding to the beauty of the day, I discovered that this wasn’t just a mock shoot. Our couple, Emily and Adi, are actually engaged, which made every laugh and touch feel even more real. Their chemistry brought depth to the editorial energy, and the film stills from this Hotel Joaquin elopement are some of my favorites I’ve ever captured.

Shaw’s Cove: The Perfect Coastal Backdrop

Then, after the table scenes, we wandered down to Shaw’s Cove, a nearby beach that’s always been one of my go-to photography spots. In spite of cloudy skies, the cliffs, palm trees, and soft waves created a peaceful, cinematic backdrop. We leaned into the moody tones, capturing candid walking shots, quiet moments, and windswept smiles. These shots particularly reflected the true heart of a beach elopement experience: quiet joy, meaningful movement, and the beauty of being fully present.

Finishing this Hotel Joaquin Elopement Day with Style and Celebration

Finally, to wrap the evening, we ended the shoot with flash bar photos inside the hotel. Fun, stylish, and a little bit cheeky—these images are such a vibe. It was a particularly perfect ending to a day full of story-driven imagery.

This shoot reminded me how much I love being a destination wedding photographer—especially for couples who want their day to feel intimate, artful, and unmistakably them. If you’re looking to elope in Laguna Beach, Hotel Joaquin is a dream. Whether you’re planning something small and personal or styled and bold, this spot delivers.
