This session captured everything I love about beach shoots: a beautiful couple, golden light, and spontaneous joy. You might remember these two from the Newport Beach sunrise elopement we did together—they’re just as fun and connected now as they were then. This time, we met up at Shaw’s Cove for a film + digital shoot that felt less like a photo session and more like a memory in motion.

Embracing Movement and Lighthearted Energy

From the start, Ivonne and Timo brought a playful, adventurous energy to their session. Their comfort with each other made it easy to capture those moments between couples that feel unposed but totally meaningful. Shaw’s Cove turned out to be the perfect location—framed by rocky boundaries, lined with smooth sand, and full of coastal beauty. We started along the water’s edge, using the natural beauty of the cove as a backdrop.

As the sky transitioned from golden hour into twilight, the colors deepened and the water began to shimmer with cooler tones. This time of day is one of my favorites to shoot in—there’s something romantic and cinematic about it. Ivonne and Timo wore relaxed neutral outfits that played beautifully with the coastal tones. Then, as the sun dipped lower, they asked if I wanted them to really get into the water. I said yes, of course.

A Playful End to an Unforgettable Session

What followed was one of the most joy-filled endings to a couple shoot I’ve ever documented. They ran through the waves, danced in the surf, and completely embraced the moment. These two were all-in: barefoot, soaking wet, and totally in love. It reminded me why I love being an elopement and engagement photographer so much. In the end, sessions like this are about more than just getting good photos. They’re about connection, emotion, and documenting your story as it truly is.
