When Casey and Andrew booked me for their wedding, I couldn’t have been more excited. And then, they quickly followed up by booking me for their included engagement session. While I was visiting my boyfriend Chris’s family in Southern California, we decided to make their session happen at a place I’m familiar with and love—Shaw’s Cove in Laguna Beach.

Shaw’s Cove is tucked away in a quiet neighborhood, a favorite spot for locals and photographers alike. With its rugged cliffs, golden sands, and crashing waves, it’s the perfect backdrop for romantic and coastal engagement photos. I’ve been to this beach many times before, but the tide on this particular evening was unlike anything I’d ever experienced. The waves were wild and dramatic, making the session both unique and unforgettable.

The Story Behind this Shaw’s Cove Laguna Engagement Session

Casey and Andrew were lovely to work with. They were sweet, fun, and so easygoing, which made the entire session so enjoyable. The high tide also added an element of adventure as we ran around the waves, sometimes retreating to the cliffs to avoid getting soaked, only to venture back down when things calmed. This ebb and flow added a natural spontaneity to their engagement photos, making the experience even more memorable.

For this session, I shot a mix of digital and film photography, capturing the romantic and timeless vibe that Shaw’s Cove exudes. Casey’s flowy cream-colored maxi dress and Andrew’s crisp white button-down shirt perfectly complemented the beach’s soft color palette. Altogether, the crashing waves, the golden sunset, and this couple’s effortless chemistry created a gallery that feels both cinematic and heartfelt.

A Beautiful Day Spent in Laguna Beach

Since Chris doesn’t always come along for my shoots, having him with me for this one was so fun. We spent the day exploring some of my favorite spots in Laguna Beach before heading to Shaw’s Cove. I took him to Montage, a stunning luxury hotel with a picturesque walkway, and we soaked in the beauty of Southern California’s coastline. As always, Laguna Beach delivered breathtaking views and a perfectly laid-back vibe. I would love to shoot a wedding at the Montage someday!

After the session, we capped off the evening with dinner at Oliver’s Osteria and tried their incredible truffle pasta. Ultimately, the day felt like the perfect mix of work and quality time with my favorite person. Days like this remind me of why I love what I do.
