Ali + Scott’s timeless San Diego elopement photography session!

I was so excited when Ali first reached out to me about this sunrise elopement session and courthouse wedding! I’ve followed and admired her Instagram account for a while. So, hearing that she wanted me to document this part of her and Scott’s love story delighted me.

These two planned a wedding in Italy for later in the year. But, like many couples who plan international weddings, they wanted to make everything legal and official here in the States. Every country has different rules about how and where you can legally get married, so courthouse elopements are often the best way to avoid any complications. Even though this wasn’t going to be their big, big day, Ali and Scott still wanted to capture every moment. And I felt so honored when they booked me as their elopement photographer.

We started the day with a timeless San Diego elopement photography session at Sunset Cliffs. Most people know this location because of its sunset views, but we didn’t want to compete with the crowds. So, instead, we met at the cliffs at sunrise. Clouds filled the early morning sky, hiding the sunrise from view. Still, we made the most of the weather, took advantage of the soft, creamy light, and enjoyed extra shooting time.

Ali and Scott are such a sweet couple. I really enjoyed working with them as we wandered around the cliffside, capturing these organic, intimate moments. I shot half film and half digital for the perfect combination of nostalgia and soft timelessness. With the wildflowers still in bloom and such a quiet morning at a typically crowded location, this session felt truly dreamy.

After we finished Scott and Ali’s sunrise bridal portraits, we took a break before meeting up at the San Diego courthouse a few hours later. There, I witnessed their official marriage along with a few of the couple’s friends and family. And, of course, these two couldn’t get married without their adorable pup, Olive, who they dressed up for the occasion!

All in all, this timeless San Diego elopement photography session was a pleasure to work on. From the stunning setting to the authentic love this couple shares, everything came together to create an unforgettable elopement day! Now, all that’s left for these two is to say “I do!” in Italy.
