Makena + Mario’s beachy Oahu couple session!

I was so excited when Mario and Makena decided to work with me for this shoot. Since I wanted to add a beachy, casual Hawaiian couple session to my portfolio, this was a fantastic opportunity to do just that! It’s always such a joy to spend time on the islands. So, I love it whenever I get to work on sessions here.

Before I ultimately picked this beach for the session, I scouted many different locations around the island. It’s crucial to make sure the lighting will be just right for each photoshoot. So, I researched and found out where the light would be best on Oahu this time of the year. Once I saw how gorgeous this beach was at sunset, I knew this would be the perfect location for a beachy Oahu couple session. And the island mountain in the background made it even prettier!

Of course, I loved working on this shoot because it was in Hawaii; who wouldn’t? But it was also a pleasure because I had a lot of fun with Makena and Mario. This Oahu-based couple is super fun and outgoing. Mario is a surfer, so I shouldn’t have been surprised by his energy, but I definitely was. He and Makena literally ran around on the beach for most of their session! And we ended up capturing a ton of organic moments of laughter and movement because of it.

For outfits, we decided to go with swimsuits to embrace that beachy Hawaiian vibe. Also, we wanted to get some fun shots of Mario and Makena in the ocean, so swimsuits made a lot of sense. Golden hour here was beautiful, which made it easy to get these dreamy, timeless, filmy final edits. Then, later on, we did some romantic dim-light shots that came out stunning with the pink clouds and that last bit of sun reflecting off the water.

While I still haven’t visited Kauai, this beach reminded me of how I imagine it would feel to shoot there.
